London Marathon Print E-mail

I don't even run for the bus, but in just 50 days time Russ and Matt will be taking on the 26.2 mile challenge of the Virgin London Marathon on the 25th April.

Russ is running for the Stroke Association, and Matt on behalf of Guy's and Saint Thomas Kidney Patient Association.

Rather than make you choose who to support, I decided to pool our resources.  As a DTNA Student (I will be checking names!), you can follow the link at the end of this post and at the end of the collecting period Dance the Night Away will match, pound for pound, your money (please click for GiftAid if you possibly can, and make DTNA donate even more).

50% will then go to each of these fabulous charities.

The Stroke Assocation do amazing work for Stroke Patients and their families through their community services, and a friend of ours works closely with their research department. In a recent listing it was found that the Stroke assocation only just get into the top 50 charities in the country (listed by money donated) - beaten by a Donkey Sanctuary!  We need to put this right - and we can start here.

The Guys And St. Thomas Hospital Kidney Patients Association (GSTTKPA) exists to promote the welfare and facilities for patients of Guys and St Thomas suffering from kidney disease or renal failure. They also donate to the Research term at Guys.  The GSTTKPA were there for a friend of ours when he needed a kidney transplant with support for him and his partner (the donor!).  The work these guys do for the recipients, donors, families and friends of transplant patients is amazing and we are proud to be able to give back something to the charity that helped save the lives of two dear friends.

If you want to come down and support Russ and Matt on the day, give me a shout!

To donate go to: http://www.virginmoneygiving.com/DTNA to see the fundraising page.

March Social and Latest Print E-mail

I’m running behind myself – I do wish I could stop ‘tweaking’ the playlists! Well the March Social is on this Friday (5th March) and I hope to see you all there and beat away some of these weather blues. The class will be UK style swing – if you are thinking about doing our 10 week course in March then this is a good little taster! The playlist is now up for you to peruse.

8pm – Beginner and Improver Class in UK Swing Jive

8.30pm – General Dancing and messing about

As always friends are welcome and if you let me know before 2pm on Friday (by email, text or voicemail) then they get on the Guestlist and get in for membership rates.

Please note: our April Social will be on the SECOND Friday of the month due to Good Friday.

Courses

There’s only TWO WEEKS LEFT (not 1 week as I said in my email) to get our discount rates by booking online. On Sunday evening of 14th March the discount prices available online will cease to exist and every place after that point will be £75 each. Get in now while it’s cheap! (£50 for an individual, £90 for a couple).

Monday 22nd March sees the start of our next set of 10 week courses.

8pm Ballroom (20 places remaining)

9pm UK Swing Jive (26 places remaining)

We also have a few days coming up with Bromley Adult Education College;

Saturday 20th March – Argentine Tango (19 places remaining)

Saturday 26th June – A Day of Dancing (Waltz, Social Foxtrot & Merengue) – (32 places remaining)

Please contact the college if you want to book places.

A quick note on Private lessons. As you all know our private lessons are on a Tuesday evening and several of you have contacted us recently about having a lesson. We are really busy in the private lessons at the moment, much more so than normal for this time of year, and already we are almost fully booked until mid April. If you are wanting private lessons contact us soon to make sure you can get a slot!

Tuesday 16th March sees our Improver Tango group host two extra special guest teachers who are going to refine our basic milonga steps and help us improve.  Tim has already asked me for a projector so this class promises to be something special!  I have a few places left on this special lesson - contact me if you are interested.

Finally I had a lot of bounced emails from our last months email.  If you didn't get an email and you think you should have please do contact me as I have deleted all the bounced addresses from our update list.

Dancing on Wheels Print E-mail

The BBC have expanded the Strictly empire with their new show that has just started on BBC3 (Tuesdays 9pm).  Dancing on Wheels follows a similar format to Strictly, but this time the hunt is on for a couple to represent the UK at the European Wheelchair DanceSport Championships.

Latest Best Of... Print E-mail

I've finally got around to adding another 'Best of...' Playlist for Foxtrot covering Social and Slow styles.  You'll find it under Resources!  More to follow!

February's Playlist Print E-mail

I know you are all waiting (very patiently - thank you!) for the promised Playlist!  On Sunday, when I sat down to do this the computer decided that it didn't know  what iTunes was, or a library or anything.  We could see our music files physically, so we knew we hadn't lost the music (phew!) but iTunes resolutely told us we had NOTHING!

Of course with teaching Monday and Tuesday we didn't have chance to sit down and try and fix the problem and for a while I thought I was going to have to reuse December and November's playlist from the iPod, replete with Christmas and Halloween themed tunes.  But last night we resolved the issue and I spent the first two hours of my usual four building tomorrows playlist.  Therefore, another two hours tonight and it will be up and running - you can expect it to be posted about 8pm tonight.

Thanks again for your patience!
